Cost of Living
Week 3 – The Don’t
2024.01.21
What NOT to do with your money.
financial laziness.
After that, we’ll talk about financial Idolatry.
It’s not about what you have. It’s about who you trust.
Financial Laziness.
Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
For even when we were with you, we used to give you this command: “If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat.”
For we hear that some among you are living an undisciplined life,[o] not doing their own work but meddling in the work of others.[p]
Now such people we command and urge in the Lord Jesus Christ to work quietly and so provide their own food to eat.
Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow.
“A stingy man hastens after wealth and does not know that poverty will come upon him.”
Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household,
Financial Laziness
Financial Idolatry
The one who loves money will never be satisfied with money, he who loves wealth[ad] will never be satisfied with his income. This also is futile.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
You cannot serve God and money.
And there was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.
In the thirty-sixth year of the reign of Asa,
Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and built Ramah, that he might permit no one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah
Then Asa took silver and gold from the treasures of the house of the Lord and the king’s house
Behold, I am sending to you silver and gold. Go, break your covenant with Baasha king of Israel, that he may withdraw from me.
The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him
What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.
It’s not about what you have. It’s about who you trust.
who you trust, will always be reflected in how you live.
there is nothing better for people than to be happy in their work.
Dishonest money dwindles away,
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
It’s not about what you have. It’s about who you trust.
But to answer your question, you know the commandments:
Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him.
Then come, follow me.
At this the man’s face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions
It’s not about what you have. It’s about who you trust.
