Week 4 – Find Your People
The direction and the quality of my life tomorrow is determined by those closest to me today.
Proverbs 13:20: Walk with the wise and become wise for a companion of fools suffers harm.
2 characteristics of a wise person
A person who understands that all of life is connected and lives accordingly.
A person, when truth shines into their life, adjusts their life accordingly.
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 18:15 “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out.”
Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.” 1 Corinthians 15:33
Who is in your inner circle? Do you have the right people in your inner circle?
2 Peter 1:5-7For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.
5 warning signs
- Are your friends moving in a direction you do not want your life moving in?
- When you are around your friends are you pretending to be someone other than who you know you are?
- When you are with your friends do you feel pressure to compromise your values?
- Do you find yourself “going but not participating”?
- Are there times when you hope the people you care about most don’t find out where you have been, what others were doing, or who you have been with?
2 Peter 1:8-11 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
